5 Arabic Letter Riddles - For Beginners

So you've just learned all 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet! How do you feel, sis? Never thought you'd make it through all those letter variations, did you?!..but you did! Kudus to you.

Alright, then! Before you move onto reading Arabic words, let's see if you really know them like the back of your very own hand.

A few weeks ago, I started an online night school in the 'Black'' Women Learning Arabic' group. Here are 5 riddles based on those Facebook lives to test yourself on how familiar you are with this finished chapter in your Arabic learning journey. Try and give yourself (or a learning partner) no more than 15-30 sec on each riddle. The riddles are grouped according to my online minicourse series titled 'Afrabics'. Ready, sis?

Here we go:

Riddle #1:

Which 4 Arabic letters can you make from a short vertical line? They all have a bend in one position. Hint: the vertical line is the first letter in the Arabic alphabet. Comment below.

Riddle #2:

Starting with the Latin letter 'U', so that it's somewhat like a 'C' sideways, this forms a common shape in 4 Arabic letters. What are they? Comment below.

Riddle #3:

The next 4 Arabic letters have a similar structure to the following...and before you get ahead of yourself, no it is not 'ba', 'ta' or 'thaa'. Guess again. You can crack this!:

Riddle #4:

Imagine that sideways 'C' shape I talked about earlier is a boat. Just imagine that there are 5 boats similar to it...and they're all quite old such that in the first one you discover that it has 1 hole at the bottom. The second boat has one hole at the top. Another boat has not one but 2 holes below deck. The third has 2 holes above deck, and the last one has got it the worst and has 3 big holes in dire need of repair. What was the first, second, third, fourth and final Arabic letter?

Riddle #5:

Two c's stacked on top of each other. The top being small. The bottom being bigger.

Riddle #6:

Three Arabic letters. One is a circle. The other 2 emerge from it. What are they?
