Making Alhamdulillah a Habit - A ''Black'' Muslim Sister's Interactive Journal

About showing gratitude, Allah s.w.t, in the Holy Qur'an, says in the chapter of Abraham:

وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِى لَشَدِيدٌ

And when your Lord proclaimed, “If you are grateful, I will surely enhance you [in blessing], but if you are ungrateful, My punishment is indeed severe.” ’

[Holy Quran 14:7]

The process of making this interactive journal/notepad has been quite a personal one. From the illustration, to the Arabic calligraphy and designing the interior. At a point in my life where my healing journey was at its seemingly gloomy phase, I turned to making a habit of a simple act of gratitude as a first step out of that negative space, and it worked!

Sometimes, we can as Muslims suppress whatever our real experience of something is or even dismiss it, when saying Alhamdulillah out of fear of showing ingratitude in unfortunate circumstances. Even in fortunate ones, but why would The All Knowing, The All Wise create us with the gift of emotions, if not to experience them?

What we then decide to do with those emotions and exercising emotional intelligence, is another topic worth exploring.

So this interactive invites you to acknowledge and affirm your God-given right to feel whatever the emotion you may feel; the pleasant and not so pleasant to help cultivate a sense of self-acceptance, self-awareness and above all shed light on the silver lining on that day. No matter how insignificant it may seem.
